Feature Follow Friday: Undiscovered Talent

Feature Follow Friday is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. It's a way for bloggers and readers alike to make some new friends and gain some new followers as well. The point of this hop is to follow other bloggers. I follow you, you follow me.

Also, this week's featured bloggers are Romance Dreamland Book Corner and My Random Book Thoughts, so make sure you check them out too!

While I do prefer GFC and/or Bloglovin follows, if you would like to follow me via email/twitter etc., that's great too! Also, please leave a comment so I can follow you back!

Question of the Week

Tell us about a book you loved but no one else seems to have heard of. It can be new, or old, or any genre. Let's spread the love.
The first three books that comes to my mind are as follows (in no particular order):

The Silver Brumby series by Elyne Mitchell

I had almost forgotten about this series. I read this way back in primary school, possible in the first couple of years of my move to Australia. My English was sketchy at best but I could string together enough words to make a sentence (and stumble my way through a book). This was possibly the third series I picked up - first being Harry Potter (because that was what we were reading in class) and the second being The Babysitter's Club (because I was handed down a large secondhand collection of this series). I fell in love with horses then and there. Even now, years down the track, I still think this is a fairly magical book - deep enough to enchant adults but simple enough to be read to children as a bedside story.

Jacko Moran: Sniper by Ken Catran

This was the first war novel I read. And after all these years, I still think back to this one every now and then. It's out-of-print now, so I can't reread it even if I wanted to. All I remember is what really caught me is the epilogue, with a line that goes something like "war didn't kill me but peace did." I wish more people knew about this book.

Holes by Louis Sachar

I had several repeated "first" experiences with this book. The first time, I believe it was my grade six class read. Back then, I just couldn't get into being read to in class. I had no idea  what my teacher was reading to me (now, in retrospect, I realized it was all the alternating between the past and present that confused me). A couple of years later, whilst in high school, I picked up this book again, thinking I was reading it for the first time. It wasn't until halfway through the book when I got a sense of deja vu and realized I had read it before. Then, final year of high school, our class trip to the cinema was to watch a movie called Holes and stupid me, I didn't connect the dots until about one-third of the way through when they started digging. :D

So yes, these are the three books I wish more people knew about. Which book did you pick this week?

  1. I remember Holes!! Read that in 6th grade after one of my teachers read it to us. It was rather good, though I can't say the same for the movie.

  4. Holes brings back so many memories. I, also, had a similar situation happen when I was watching the movie for the first time. I didn't connect the dots, at first, that it was based on the book. Happy reading! Have a great weekend!
