Top Ten Books I'd Love to Revisit from My Teen Years

TTT is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

As I have mentioned often in some of my previous posts, I was a voracious reader back in primary and secondary school. Reading then became non-existent during university. And it's only been in the last couple of years that I have really restarted reading in large volumes. So there are a lot of books that I want to revisit! And I had a hard trouble picking among them to only make ten.

Even as I type this, I can visualize in my head the YA-section of the local library that I used to haunt after school. I can see the paperbacks stacked in the revolving shelves and can even remember roughly which column some of these books were located.

Anyway, let's take a trip down memory lane and flip through some reads that I would love to revisit if only I have more time!

1. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
I think (and I hope) that this will be a very popular item on a lot of book blogger's list this week. I practically grew up with these books. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone came out when I was in primary school - one of the first books I remember the teacher reading out to us - and Deathly Hallows came out in my final year of high school. They are practically the bookends of my schooling life!

2. Juliet Marillier's works
It may be cheating for me to put an author up rather than a particular work of theirs but I have a very hard time trying to figure out which one of Juliet Marillier's works to put up. I put Wolfskin up in the collage because it is the first work of hers that I read. But seriously, I enjoy them all equally. I love the Sevenwaters series, I adore the Bridei chronicles and I will always remember Wolfskin and Foxmask.

3. Redwall series by Brian Jacques
Another series that I continuously read throughout my schooling life. There are so many books in the series, so they kept me occupied all through primary and secondary school! Even now as adults, I still find myself enjoying Jacques' tales.

4. Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson
I forgot what this trilogy was called for a moment. All I could remember was the S on the cover and that the trilogy was located in the K-N section of the library. But this trilogy stayed in my mind. I think this is the first series in which a) my OTP was not the main character and b) they did not get their happy ending. I remember thinking about this trilogy for days afterwards, and thinking "what if..."

5. Holes by Louis Sachar
Another book that my primary school teacher read out loud to us in class. I remember thinking at first, what on earth is this book? The alternation between past and present is confusing enough when you read a book, it's even more confusing when someone else is reading it to you. But then as the story unfolded and things began to link up, I really delved into the story and loved it.

6. His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman
Another series in which my OTP didn't make it. *sigh*

7. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
I got hooked on these books from the very beginning in which Snicket tries his utmost to dissuade you from reading the book. They definitely appealed to me throughout high school. Not sure I can handle all the doom and gloomy if I were to re-read them now. Haha.

8. Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden
This is possibly the first dystopian series I read. I remember being mindblown at the concepts introduced by Marsden in this series.

9. Obernewtyn and Legendsong series by Isobelle Carmody
To be frankly honest, it's been so long since I've read these books that I don't even remember what the plots of these two series are anymore. All I remember is I'm still waiting for the series to be finished. Obernewtyn at least looks like it's slowly coming to a conclusion. But the Legendsong! It's been 13 years now since the second book. And I'm still waiting.

10. Wicca (or Sweep) by Cate Tiernan
Depending on which country you're in, this series is marketed under a different title. Now, I'm not listing this series because of its great writing or great plot or anything. This series makes the list simply because it did for a brief period of time dominate my teenage years and I devoured this series much the way I made my way through The Babysitter's Club series and Sweet Valley series (now who remembers those?).

So those are the ten books/series I pick to revisit from my teen years, which ones did you pick for this week?
