Top Ten Tuesday: Historical and Futuristic Settings You Love

TTT is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

With fantasy being one of my favourite genres to read from, it comes to no surprise that I have plenty of futuristic settings that I would love more of. However, in terms of historical settings, I really had to scratch my head to think beyond the obvious.

World War II

From The Book Thief to All the Lights We Cannot See, I really enjoy reading about World War II. It was a dark period in human history and there are still so much of it that I do not know. So I am always on the look out for good books set in World War II.

Victorian London

I love reading historical romances almost as much as I love fantasy novels. I remember a period last year when I was under a lot of exam stress and I craved nothing but historical romances. I ended up reading so many Julia Quinn novels in a row!

The US Civil War

I haven't read as many novels set in the US Civil War as I have about World War II. But the books that I have read, including Cold Mountain, are excellent and makes me want more.

The Great Depression

I read Angela's Ashes back in high school. I know it's not exactly fiction, but the setting was so bitter and difficult, it stayed with me for a long time after I finished reading.

World War I

I haven't read as many books set in World War I compared to World War II but it's still a setting I really enjoy exploring.

The Legend Series

In terms of future settings, I think the setting of the Legend series would be interesting. Not the Republic of course, but the super modern society of Antarctica sounds like a place I wouldn't mind exploring.

Spinning Starlight

The intergalactic world with space travel and voice-activated technology of Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis also sounds super cool.

The Lunar Chronicles

Space travel, androids and cyborgs! Not only is the Lunar Chronicles one of my favourite series of all times, but I totally wouldn't mind exploring the world some more!

The Firebird Series

Imaging a society far enough into the future that time travel could be a possibility. It's close enough to our current society that I can relate to it yet at the same time, full of potentials.

The Starbound Series

Again, a far flung society where intergalactic travel is possible. Sign me up!

So yes, those are my top ten favourite historical and futuristic settings that I would love more of. Which ones did you pick this week? Let me know in the comments section below!

  1. Wouldn't traveling through dimensions be cool?! I really like that idea in the Firebird books. I'm starting A Darker Shade of Magic now and it's along the same lines so I'm excited for it. Great list!

  10. If you have not read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah yet, you must. That one and Code Name Verity. They are some of the best WWII fiction I've read in the last couple of years!
